Dorset Heavy Horse Farm Park - Work and Volunteering Opportunities

Firstly, thank you for visiting our opportunities page. You may well be in a position to invest your time which can benefit both the farm and you.

Due to the nature of the park being an independently family-run farm rather than a funded organisation, funds limit the size of our working team. The visitor attraction is one of the last exhibiting the rare breed heavy horses and supporting the preservation, conservation, education and public awareness of their history.

We are opening the doors to individuals that are in a position to dedicate their time which will hopefully bring many benefits to the farm, horses, animals and of course, those willing to help.

Opportunities for the younger generation

Duke of Edinburgh and Work Experience Placements

It brings us great satisfaction in seeing progression of the younger generation. The Dorset Heavy Horse Farm Park has been a stepping stone for hundreds of young individuals who have gained experience within the farm which has supported them in their next steps.

We have seen wonderful young individuals become farriers specialising in heavy horses, vets and veterinary nurses, dairy farmers and teachers. As well as the academic and practical benefits the farm park offers, the park also provides opportunities for young people to gain social and communication skills which help build confidence and character.

This is something we pride ourselves in helping students with guided by a supportive mentor.

Placements for Duke of Edinburgh and work experience placements can be high demand. If we are unable to welcome a placement, we may be able to add you to a waiting list. Please contact us to apply for a education placement position.

Employment and job opportunities

We recruit seasonal staff (farm keepers, stable grooms, chefs & kitchen staff, front of house staff, fairground operators) to join us between the months of April and November.

The farm provides a wonderful unique rural setting, a delightful atmosphere where you are considered a member of the family. We work tirelessly as a team to ensure we provide the best care to our animals, the best possible experience for our visitors and the best food and drinks in our country and western themed café.

We recruit additional help during the high season including weekends and school holidays, which is ideal for students wishing to gain experience within the workplace.

Please contact us to apply for a job role.
